What Are The Five Levels Of Leadership?

Position means that people are going to follow you because they are obligated to do so. That means that your influence is not going to go any further beyond your job description. The longer you stay here more people are going to do things because they need to do so and when it is not necessary they will say no.
Permission means that people are going to follow you because they would like to do so. That gives you a chance to make your work fun. If you stay too long here the people who like doing the things that they enjoy become restless and will go elsewhere.
Production is that people are following you because of the impact your work has on the organization. Right here people can sense that you have been successful. They like you as a person and the things that you have done. It is easy to fix the problems here due to momentum.
People Development is where long term growth happens. When you committ to develop leaders it will ensure the ongoing growth to your organization and to people. You must do whatever it takes to accomplish and remain at this level.
Finally Personhood. This is a step that is reserved for leaders who have been growing people and organization for years. Very few people make it and those who do are considered bigger than life.
